The top slider bar controls the amount of the effect, from zero to percent. Lets you manually adjust the scanner focus. Given the very low resolution of the index scans, there’s really no need for focusing on each frame, and the time this takes is appreciable. Pressing the Index Prescan button initiates a rapid, very low-res prescan, after which each thumbnail is displayed in order on the screen. Lets you “grab” the portion of the image displayed in the preview window, and move it for viewing other areas.

However we cilm quite expect it to be snapping at the heels of its more expensive brother the Dimage Scan Elite 2, but that’s just what happened. A final conclusion will have to await a complete analysis of my test scans, but the early results are very promising.

Though the Scan Dual 3 image could have done with some adjustment. In my tests, the DSD-III delivered about the highest resolution I’ve yet seen from a scanner in its general resolution category dpi units. Some of the finer points when scanning are actually fun, like the manual focus. In my testing, Pixel Polish seemed to work very well with images that minnolta a pure white somewhere within the frame that the scanner could use as a dimmage point.
Hardly visible on Train 2 though, which I guess means that that slide is less challenging.
